ST Math Focus Overview
ST Math Focus is a streamlined ST Math experience designed to make it easier for individual schools to bring visual, conceptual math learning to their students.
It combines carefully selected ST Math learning objectives with high-priority grade-level mathematics while preserving the visual problem solving, student motivation, and independent learning experience that define ST Math.
ST Math Focus is designed to provide:
- A lower-lift implementation
- Priority grade-level math concepts
- A flexible starting point for schools
- An opportunity to expand into broader ST Math use when ready
What content is included in ST Math Focus?
ST Math Focus concentrates student learning on priority grade-level concepts and major standards.
Each Focus journey is engineered to pair important conceptual math needs with best-fit ST Math games, giving students opportunities to make sense of mathematical ideas visually before moving to symbols and procedures.
Students progress through challenging visual puzzles using ST Math’s mastery-based approach, working toward 100% success while receiving immediate animated feedback that helps them test and revise their thinking.
How much time should students spend in ST Math Focus?
ST Math Focus is designed to fit into a wide variety of school schedules.
This makes Focus especially useful for schools looking for a lower-lift way to incorporate ST Math into an existing instructional schedule while being intentional about student screen time.
How is ST Math Focus different from ST Math?
Both programs provide students with ST Math’s visual, conceptual approach to learning mathematics, but they are designed for different levels of implementation.
| ST Math Focus | ST Math | |
| Content | Priority concepts and major standards covered | Broader content and standards coverage, plus bonus and optional content like Math Facts, Challenge, and Mixed Review |
| Implementation | Streamlined implementation | Richer implementation and instructional supports |
| Progress Visibility | Basic progress visibility | Richer Reporting, assignments, and teacher tools. |
| Growth Path | Start focused and expand when ready | Broader school or districtwide use |
| Assessment | Mastery-based learning | Pre- and post-quizzes for grade 2+ |
Can a school start with ST Math Focus and expand later?
Yes. ST Math Focus is intended to provide a flexible entry point into ST Math.
Schools can begin with Focus and later grow into broader ST Math use when their needs, implementation plans, or budgets change.
Is ST Math Focus available at the school level?
Yes. ST Math Focus is designed for single-school adoption, allowing schools to get started without waiting for a districtwide implementation.
The program was specifically designed around school-level budgets and a streamlined implementation model.
What does the student experience look like in ST Math Focus?
Students experience the same core elements that make ST Math distinctive:
- Conceptual learning: Concrete, visual puzzles help students understand grade-level ideas before relying on symbols and procedures.
- Interactive animated feedback: Students can test ideas, revise their thinking, and build understanding through immediate visual feedback.
- Mastery and persistence: Students work through challenging puzzles toward 100% success.
- Independent problem solving: Students make sense of mathematics through productive struggle and visual reasoning.
These elements are intentionally preserved within the more focused curriculum.
