Learner Velocity shows how many puzzles per minute the student is solving. Because ST Math is self-paced, this measure will vary as students work through different math content. The Velocity column shows the average number of puzzles per minute for the school year thus far rather than reflecting the velocity of the current week. You may notice more fluctuation at the beginning of the year and less so at the end. |
How to make the most of Learner Velocity:
There is no ideal Learner Velocity, but it can be helpful to adjust classroom ST Math routines and practices accordingly. Just as students read at varied paces, students may require more or less time to work through ST Math Objectives.
Lower velocities: In order to ensure that all students play as many puzzles as possible, students with lower velocities will need extra time to play. Consider some options on our Schedules & Stations page to provide students with extra time to play ST Math.
Higher velocities: Students who work through the program quickly might benefit from assignments, opportunities to connect their learning with writing tasks, or using the ideas for Early Finishers. Incorporate these ideas throughout the year rather than waiting until a student is completely finished with their Journey, Bonus Journey, and Challenge content.
