In ST Math, normally a student restarts their level if they submit two incorrect answers. This ensures they aren't guessing their way through the levels and ensures they have mastery over the current concept before moving on to the next one. Turning on Infinite JiJis allows a student to submit incorrect answers any number of time without restarting. This can be helpful for students who understand the math but are have trouble manipulating the games, or in other situations!
In most cases, before enabling infinite JiJis for students, we recommend first walking through a series of support strategies. Doing so encourages students to persevere and problem-solve while in a state of productive struggle. At times it may make sense to turn on infinite JiJis. Below you will find a few scenarios that may warrant doing so. Remember that each student is different and an educator's personal insight is of great value when making this decision.
Possible scenarios for toggling on Infinite JiJis:
- All other support strategies have been exhausted and the struggle is no longer productive
- The student has specific classroom accommodations or modifications
- The student is playing games from the Challenge Objective in the Bonus Journey
If you decide that infinite JiJis is the solution that best fits your student's situation, teachers can enable (or disable) infinite JiJis for a level by clicking on the student alert in their class usage view.
Need to enable infinite JiJis for all puzzles a student plays? Click on the Settings tab under the student's account and click on the Enable Infinite JiJis toggle. Educators will not see alerts for those students with Infinite JiJis enabled on their accounts.
Once turned on, students will see an infinity sign at the bottom of their level progress bar the next time they log in. Students will still see their previous tries/dots, but will not earn any new tries or dots.
Educators can view which students have Infinite JiJis turned for a level or for a specific grade level in their class hub.
