“I’m done!”
Hearing these two little words can strike fear into any teacher when spoken by a student prior to the end of the school year. Of course, things become even scarier when that student continues with the inevitable follow-up question: “Now what should I do?”
Thankfully, ST Math has a few great options for you and your students when they have reached the end of their Journey.
After the Journey
| If a student completes all of the levels in their grade-level Journey, then it is time to celebrate! Meeting and exceeding goals is a major accomplishment, so take some time to applaud your student and yourself for helping your student get there. |
After doing so...here's what happens next:
Bonus & Challenge Objectives
Upon completion of the Journey, your students will choose between playing Bonus or Challenge content.
These Objectives include:
- Mixed Review
- Additional content Objectives
- Math Challenge Objectives
- Challenge Objectives
- Cognitive Training (grades 3+)
- Summer Bridge Objectives (grades 6-8)
Curious what students will see on their end when their Journey is complete?
First, they'll see a screen that gives them a choice between the Bonus or Challenge, then they'll progress through a series of objectives in each. If they finish both, they'll restart their grade-level Journey.
Fact Objectives
ST Math Fact Objectives are optional, assignable objectives that cover Addition/Subtraction Facts (first grade and up) and Multiplication/Division Facts (third grade and up) and can be assigned to individual students or the whole class. Click here to learn more.
Here are a few more ideas if students complete all their additional Objectives:
Extend
- ST Math Special Projects - ST Math Special Projects include a JiJi Choice Board, rubrics, and resource pages. Click here to learn more.
- ST Math Activity Pages - ST Math Activity Pages are based on ST Math Puzzles and were designed to extend the learning from the ST Math game in a fun and engaging way for students. Click here to learn more.
Connect
- Curricular Connections - Using an ST Math puzzle, students try to build a word problem, identify the math vocabulary, or create a new representation for the concept.
- Real-world Connections - Students pair games with real-life scenarios, or interview someone in the school community (play a game together, ask how they would use the math concept).
-
Connect to Others - Connections can be made in several ways:
- Complete the Replay, Reflection, and Extension work in pairs.
- Discuss Bonus Journey work in small groups.
- Provide time to showcase ST Math Special Projects.
- Invite a guest to play and discuss a game.
Continue
- Preview - Content from the next grade level can be assigned. Students can benefit from a preview of the first few objectives in the next grade as an Individual Assignment.
- Continue - The student might benefit from moving on to the new grade level. You can change their Journey under the student Settings tab. When a student's Journey is changed, their Journey Progress will be reset. Their Puzzles and Puzzle Goal Progress will continue to accrue.
