JiJi is visiting Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, USA
Just a few miles away from Las Vegas, Nevada, is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The area's unique geologic features, plants and animals have some of best examples of the Mojave Desert. One of the plants that you can only find in the Mojave Desert is the Joshua tree. This plant, which grows less than 3 inches each year, can live to be a thousand years old. There are some Joshua trees that are 49 feet tall -- about the height of a five-story building. Animals that you might see at Rock Rock Canyon are burrowing owls that live underground -- sometimes in burrows that were dug by prairie dogs, fringe-toed lizards that have "fringes" on their hind toes to make walking on sand easier, and the sidewinder rattlesnake that glides across the sand sideways and reaches speeds of up to 18 mph.
The May Postcard message will be posted in June.
