JiJi is visiting Organ Pipes, Khorixas, NamibiaThe Organ Pipes in northern Namibia are giant, angular basalt columns sticking up like steps or the pipes of an organ! They have sharp corners and were reddish brown. The size and shape of columnar basalt is determined by how quickly the lava flow that formed them cooled. If it cooled quickly, the columns will be as small as 1 centimeter, but if it cooled slowly, the columns can be a meter or more across, like the Organ Pipes. Columnar basalt can be found all over the world, and even on Mars! |

This month's Postcard MessageHave you explored the data available to you? This month, make sure you take the time to view your data in the educator experience. The ST Math educator experience is designed to make it easy to keep track of your class as a whole and individual students. The data informs you on students’ progress and helps to strategically plan your facilitation support. For example:
Take a few minutes to explore the depth of information at your fingertips. Monitor student data for indications of who might be struggling. Ask facilitating questions to support students’ thinking as they solve the puzzles. To learn more, visit the ST Math Academy. Effective Teaching Practice & ST Math: Pose Purposeful Questions Asking good questions makes learning mathematics easier for students. With ST Math, you are encouraged to facilitate rather than teach by telling. Facilitating questions are the key and we've got you covered with a bank of questions to walk your students through their mathematical thinking, and support their thinking through the perception-action cycle. Sincerely, JiJi and the ST Math Team |
