Formative Feedback
In ST Math, every puzzle serves as a built-in opportunity for students to receive formative feedback. Through dynamic animations, students can immediately see the mathematical consequences of their actions, helping them make sense of their mistakes and deepen their understanding. This animated formative feedback creates an intrinsically motivating learning experience, guiding students to adjust their thinking and strategies in real time. Rather than simply guessing from multiple-choice options or getting a problem wrong without explanation, students in ST Math actively engage in meaningful problem-solving, fostering true conceptual growth
Controlling formative feedback animation
Students can pause and fast-forward animations. While paused, students can write on their screen to show their work using the annotation tool.
Pausing
When an animation is playing, students can click on the screen to access the scrub bar to pause and review the animation. If students click as JiJi crosses the screen, they can click and drag the ball on the scrub bar to move through the puzzle and all the animation. Clicking the icon at the end of the scrub bar will move the bar to the top or bottom of the screen.
Students can also turn on "Auto Pause," which automatically shows the scrub bar to control feedback animation play. To do this, the student should click their initials and toggle "Auto Pause" on. When this is enabled, animations don’t play automatically when a student makes a selection. Instead, it waits until the student clicks on the play button in the animation controls.
Students cannot skip the animation. They must watch it all the way through to get feedback on their answer.
Managing speed
During feedback animation, students in grades 3+ can click on the fast-forward icon to play the animation at 2x the speed. Once selected, the animation will play at 2x speed for that level until completed. The icon is not available for the first puzzle of a level, and if students answer incorrectly, the button will automatically turn off after the animation.
